Services and Treatment
Below you will find a wide array of conditions that we treat. We see patients presenting with pain issues which are recent (acute) or those that have been ongoing for several months (chronic). Each condition has its unique aspects, but our philosophy of care does not change. Each patient is treated one at a time receiving a specific treatment program that is appropriate to their situation. This will include hands on care, exercise appropriate to the condition, and instruction/awareness training on how to manage their personal situation. All care is provided by a licensed physical therapist, two of whom are orthopedic specialists.
The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), a national professional organization representing more than 73,330 members throughout the United States, established the orthopedic specialist certification program in 1978. Once all requirements are met, the therapist is eligible to be identified as a certified orthopedic specialist (OSC). Specialization requires the physical therapist to build on a broad base of professional education and practice to develop a greater depth of knowledge and skills related to a particular area of practice. To achieve the certification as an orthopedic specialist, the therapist must sit for a specialist certification exam, and complete a minimum of 2,000 hours of direct patient care in the specialty area.
We also have a therapist who specializes in women’s health. Physical therapy can benefit women with a variety of medical conditions throughout their lifespan. Although back or joint pain during pregnancy is common, it is not normal. A combination of factors may lead to the pain during or after pregnancy. Women who have had abdominal or breast surgeries can experience pain and dysfunction caused by the disruption of the surrounding soft tissue. Problems with incontinence can create problems with every day activities. Pelvic pain with daily activities or with intercourse may be related to muscle dysfunction and can lead to limitations in social and personal interactions. Physical therapy can help treat all of these conditions and more.
Sports injuries occurring during your school years or as an adult may create problems later in life if not treated properly. We work with each patient to treat the injury; and then follow with stabilization and strengthening programs to minimize similar injuries in the future.
